Welcome to the Old Grey Union - European branch
All Old Greys living in the UK/Europe/Middle East
or those who are about to travel here are warmly encouraged
to establish contact with the European Branch.
The European Branch has been in existence since the
early 1990s and provides a range of services to the
School and Old Greys. These include a valuable
bursary programme provided through The Old Grey Europe Charitable Trust, opportunities
to meet and socialise with fellow Old Greys, keeping contact with and receiving
updates on the School and assisting Old Greys who have recently arrived to orientate
themselves from a business networking perspective.

Latest News/Events
- 2011 Annual Dinner: Thursday , November 24
Feedback we have received indicates that the Dinner was another great success and enjoyed by all. Just under 60 people attended the function held at the Victory Services Club in London. Particularly pleasing was the large out of town attendance, with Old Greys travelling from the West Country, Midlands, Gloucestershire, Cambridgeshire and some as far as Denmark and Ireland to attend. Once again we had a large spread of ages ranging from the 2000 decade to Alan Newland who was our most senior Old Grey having left school in 1949.
- Bursary Scheme
Excellent news! The Rector has updated us on the mid-year
status of our three 2011 bursary recipients and you will be pleased
to know that all continue to perform well.
Since 2005, a small number of Old Greys in Europehave funded
academic bursaries for 13 deserving
young men, to attend The Grey. This
has been made possible through
the Old Grey Europe Charitable Trust, which is UK based and
enjoys the considerable financial advantages of HMRC's Gift Aid
scheme.
However to maintain and extend this valuable programme, we are
in desperate need of additional donors and are hoping that
you might consider making a donation.

- 2011 Social Evening
We held our first social evening at the All Bar One pub in Wimbledon
on Thursday, June 2. It was a great evening with about 30
OGs attending with ages ranging
from 2010 to Alan Newland who left
Grey in 1949.
- Grey 1st XI Cricket Tour
A most successful and busy fourteen days during June/July. The
Team did us proud and won eight out of their nine matches against
some of the top public schools in the south of England. The
young team comprised of an excellent blend of experience and new
caps with a healthy number of players showing great talent as all-rounders. This
ensured that we had batting strength all the way down. Also
very pleasing were the comments received from various hosts about
the Team’s excellent performance off the field – a great
credit to the School

Old Grey match, please refer to the attachmentson the Events page.
- Grey 1st XI versus Old Grey Europe: Sunday, July 3
A great occasion! On Sunday afternoon, July 3, about a
hundred Old Greys and their families arrived and enjoyed a
very social time watching some good cricket and probably more importantly,
socialising with old friends, making new ones and generally
enjoying a pleasant sunny afternoon. It was also a real privilege
to have The Rector, the Grey coaching team and the travelling
parents enjoy the afternoon with us - not to mention the special bonus
of having the Headmaster, Lindsay Pearson and his wife
Noel also present, having broken into their UK holiday
to attend.
The cricket game was a close affair for most of the time with the
First XI being limited (surprisingly)
to 127 for 7 wickets. After
a very promising start the Old Grey "tail" unfortunately
did not wag and we were all out for
just under 100 runs!! However the side
put up a great performance and was very ably captained by Wayne
Brown. Others in the team (including subs) were: Andre
Basson, Anton Basson, Chad Breetzke
(who came down all the way from Scotland), Lindsay Brown, Martin Brown,
Grant Gilson, Mathew Godwin, Nicholas Godwin, David Harley, Dan deJesus,
Luke Pearson, Michael Williams and Adam Wilson. A truly memorable
day for the Brown family having two brothers (Wayne & Lindsay)
and two sons (Lloyd & Martin) playing in the match.
