The Old Grey Charitable Trust
In 2006 The Old Grey Europe Charitable Trust was formed
and registered as a UK charity with the specific objective
of providing financial assistance to the School. At
present this assistance takes the form of a bursary programme.
Existing Programme:
The Charitable Trust supports a programme which started in 2005 by providing
two bursaries per year for deserving boys in Grades 11 & 12. These bursaries
are awarded on the recommendation of the Rector to boys who have made an active
contribution to the life of the School over the previous three years and who
for financial reasons, would otherwise not be able to complete their education
at Grey. To date nine boys have been assisted.
Proposed Programme Extension:
Based on recent discussions with the Rector and an advisory
group of Old Greys, the Trustees are planning to extend
the bursary programme in 2011 to include previously disadvantaged
boys from the Port Elizabeth area.
It is envisaged that the bursaries will commence in Grade 8 and continue through
Grade 12 and will include tuition fees and support costs (eg. books, uniforms,
sports equipment, transport costs etc.). Successful recipients will hold
the bursaries for the remainder of their school career subject to their meeting
satisfactory performance criteria.
How can you assist?
Currently a very small number of the Old Greys on our UK/Europe/Middle
East database have made or make regular donations to fund
the existing bursary programme. Additional
contributions are urgently required to fund the existing and extended bursary
programmes.
