Old Grey Europe - Bursary
In 2005 we decided that it was time to show support for
our old school in a tangible way and we set up a Bursary
Scheme to pay the tuition fees for a deserving pupil in his
last two years at the Grey (now circa R24,000 p/a). This
requires a monthly contribution of around £165 from
our Old Grey Europe funds and we hope that Old Greys in Europe
will make a minimum contribution of £3 per month or £36
per year (equivalent to one pint a month) to help finance
this award. The award will be made each year (see below for
details of the latest recipients) which means that at any
one time we will be supporting two pupils.
The Award
criteria
The award will be made at the discretion of the Rector and staff to a pupil who has attended Grey for at least three years and in that time has participated actively in the life of the School and achieved some measure of success in a number of areas. The award should be made to boys who would otherwise have difficulty in completing their schooling at Grey. The recipients of the award will be announced at the beginning of each year.
How can you contribute?
Currently only about 5% of the Old Greys on our database are giving by standing order and, if you are not already giving in this way, we would encourage you to do so. In 2006 we set up The Old Grey Europe Charitable Trust, which is now a registered UK charity. This means that the Trust can claim back 25p in the £ from UK Revenue if donations come from UK taxpayers and the taxpayers themselves can obtain tax relief.
